Overview

OBJECTIVE:

 

The MD- Director of OB-GYN Graduate Medical Education delivers care appropriate for an outpatient, primary care community health center with multicultural, multilingual patient population. This position is responsible for coordinating precepting, teaching and training opportunities for OB-GYN residents from the affiliated Graduate Medical Education program(s) in the LSCC clinics.  This position also participates as part of the integrated health care delivery team and may be required to travel to LSCC facilities as needed. The MD- Director of OB-GYN Graduate Medical Education will collaborate with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as with OB-GYN residents and external organizations, and must be able to maintain professional working relationships, and provide excellent customer service.

 

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Daily Duties (including Administrative, Leadership, and Training):

 

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat female patients of all ages
  • Assure provision of routine and urgent OB-Gyn services, including maintaining outpatient clinical practice (participation in LSCC call coverage is not required)
  • Provide leadership for achieving programmatic clinical quality objectives
  • Assure high quality educational experience for OB-GYN residents and other individuals in a training role working in LSCC OB/Gyn services
  • Obtain and maintain faculty appointment to the graduate medical education programs of teaching hospitals as recommended/required by LSCC
  • Obtain and maintain membership and good standing on the medical staff of teaching hospitals as recommended/required by LSCC
  • Obtain and maintain privileges at surgery centers and teaching hospitals required to provide services consistent with the Daily Duties and Operations described herein
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Operations Team to recruit, hire and train appropriate OB/Gyn provider staff
  • Provide supervision to advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants as may be required or otherwise directed by LSCC, in its sole discretion, and in accordance with the LSCC Delegation Protocol/Collaborative Practice Agreement and related procedures
  • Supervise LSCC OB-Gyn precepting practitioners; provide feedback to CMO for periodic performance reviews for residents and precepting providers
  • Meet regularly with precepting providers, Operations team and the CMO to monitor status and report developments
  • When requested by LSCC patients, and with appropriate surgery center credentialing and privileging, provide medical care for LSCC patients in surgery center settings
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Operations:

 

  • Collaborate with other LSCC medical directors and providers to optimally integrate OB-Gyn care with Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Mental Health, and specialty service lines
  • Develop and implement adherence to clinical protocols, accepted standards of clinical care and LSCC quality initiatives related to training and precepting of OB-GYN residents
  • Establish and implement departmental policies and procedures, consistent with LSCC policies and Professional Staff Bylaws related to training and precepting of OB-GYN residents
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance and expand OB-Gyn services including, but not limited to, OB-GYN residency program and Graduate Medical Education office, hospital, and hospital clinic partners in the LSCC market
  • Communicates and works closely with senior leadership on the status of current OB-Gyn Graduate Medical Education and perceived opportunities and challenges
  • Fulfills established guidelines set in place for provider encounter levels
  • Work closely with Clinic leadership to optimize clinical flow and patient care
  • Annually present a list of programmatic objectives to the CEO and Operations team
  • Supervise care provided by residents in the OB-GYN clinics, including obstetrics and gynecological care in compliance with CMS regulations, organizational policies and procedures, and hospital rules, regulations, and medical staff bylaws. Resident supervision may be direct (supervising physician is physically present with the patient) or indirect.

 

Qualifications

Compliance:

 

  • Achieves and maintains LSCC Core Clinical Competencies
  • Comply with established risk management and safety procedures
  • Annually prepare clinical quality targets in line with the LSCC Clinical Plan, to measure LSCC and individual provider performance against that target
  • Regularly report clinical quality results to the CMO to be reported to the LSCC Quality Council, Board Quality Assurance (QA) Committee, per QA Committee requirements

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine and allied services commensurate with his/her training
  • Ability to effectively promote the mission, vision, and goals of LSCC and to readily serve its patient population
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, and English-speaking abilities
  • Ability to recognize and understand the public health, social, and economic factors which impact the overall health of LSCC patients
  • Ability to support operations while simultaneously working toward expansion of services
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of self-motivation
  • Ability to work in and support an electronic health records environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSE:

 

  • Must meet all required qualifications and responsibilities of an OB/Gyn Physician (whichever is applicable to licensure and credentials)
  • Current valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas
  • Current DEA certificate
  • MD/DO with current board certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG or ACOOG required), demonstrating ongoing maintenance of certification
  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSE:

 

  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills
  • Seven (7) years of leadership experience leading a diverse team of providers and maintaining high clinical standards

 

All LSCC employees function as a member of a collaborative health care team to create and maintain a Patient Centered Medical Home where emphasis is on excellent communication, support of the patient in self-management and care is provided and tracked in a culturally competent, behaviorally enhanced setting supported by information technology.
